A werewolf, or lycanthrope, is a mythological human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or a hybrid wolf-human creature, commonly triggered by a full moon, curse, or bite. Rooted in European folklore, these creatures are characterised by immense strength, fangs, claws, and heightened senses, often representing a loss of control or a monstrous transformation. The 1941 film The Wolf Man, starring Lon Chaney Jr., is often credited with establishing the modern, popular myths of the werewolf, although the oldest known werewolf film dates back to 1913.
