American music TV show that aired from 1971 to 2006. Created and hosted by Don Cornelius, it began as a local, low-budget live show in Chicago on WCIU-TV in 1970, before moving into national syndication in 1971. It was a major cultural influencer, showcasing the latest fashion trends like bell-bottoms, afros, extravagant colorful outfits, as well as the latest dance moves.
