San Diego Mariners T-Shirt

Professional ice hockey team that played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1974 to 1977. Based in San Diego, California, they were successful on the ice, making the play-offs in all three of their seasons. The franchise originated as the New York Raiders (1972) and the New York Golden Blades/Jersey Knights (1973) before relocating to San Diego. The team featured the WHA's all-time leading scorer, forward AndrΓ© Lacroix, who recorded 147 points in the 1974-75 season. During their final season, the team was owned by Ray Kroc, the owner of McDonald's, but after several failed attempts to relocate the franchise to Florida, the team folded in 1977, due to low attendance and financial issues.
