Funk Inc. T-Shirt

Soul-jazz and funk group, formed in Indianapolis in 1969 by organist Bobby Watley. Known for their groove-heavy sound, often featuring raw, uptempo tunes, they released five albums on Prestige Records in the early '70s, including Chicken Lickin' and Superfunk, becoming cult heroes in the later rare groove scene. After disbanding in 1976 due to shifting musical tastes, they gained renewed popularity in the '80s acid jazz scene. Their most famous track, 'Kool Is Back' is a landmark in pure funk and has been sampled by hip-hop and electronic artists, including in Yes's 'Owner of a Lonely Heart.'
