The famous Little Mermaid statue, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, was installed in 1913. The bronze sculpture has been decapitated twice (1964 & 1998), lost an arm in 1984 and vandalized multiple times, highlighting both its symbolic resilience and popularity. Around 50% of Copenhageners commute by bicycle, due to extensive bike lanes, health and convenience.
