Big Black was an 80's influential American noise rock/punk band, founded by producer and guitarist Steve Albini. Known for an abrasive sound, their lyrics tackled dark, controversial topics, including murder, misogyny, and racism. They were staunchly independent and operated a DIY ethos, controlling all aspects of their work, from production to touring. Following the band's breakup, Albini went on to form Rapeman and Shellac, and became a producer for Nirvana and The Pixies.
