National flag carrier airline of Jamaica, founded in 1963 and renowned for its 'Lovebird' brand, which offered a distinctively warm, Jamaican in-flight experience. Based in Kingston and Montego Bay, it connected the island to the US, Canada, and Europe. Despite its popularity and cultural significance, the airline struggled financially, reporting losses in 40 of its 42 years of operation. In 2011, it was acquired by Trinidad-based Caribbean Airlines and ceased operations in 2015. Air Jamaica remains a fond, nostalgic memory for many, representing the pride of the Caribbean in the aviation industry.
